Lucia di Lammermoor is an opera in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti on libretto by Salvadore Cammarano and based on the book "The Bride of Lammermoor" by Walter Scott. It is the most famous of the dramatic operas by Donizetti.
The plot of the opera is divided into two parts, "The departure" and "The marriage contract", and the setting is Scotland, in the late sixteenth century, in the castle of Ravenswood. The noble family Ashton, to which belong Enrico and his sister Lucia, has encroached the property and the family castle Ravenswood, whose only successor is Edgardo. Edgardo and Lucia love each other secretly.
