‘Il Casanova’ is one of the most visionary masterpieces by Federico Fellini which the director himself has considered his best work, more rigorous and more stylistically accomplished, but among his films this had the hardest impact of the public. Forty years after its release, the Municipality of Rimini celebrates it with a series of initiatives, including an exhibition, organized in collaboration with Elisa Tosi Brandi.
The exhibition collects material relating to the film and its processing owned by the City of Rimini: the photos taken on the set by Pierluigi Praturlon, documenting the relationship of Fellini with his closest collaborators; clothes created by Danilo Donati, which earned him his second Oscar as costume designer; drawings through which the director has got insights and provided directions; some furnishing, such as the artificial bird and the imposing mirror used in the famous sequence of Madame d'Urfé; the early drafts of the script, and among them an interesting edition accompanied by annotations in English.
To witness to the fundamental contribution by Nino Rota in the film, are on display the drafts of the musical scores of the main themes of the soundtrack.
From the Rai Teche there are the voices of the protagonists together with a montage of pieces from the documentaries ‘Fellini nel cestino’ and ‘I protagonisti di Fellini’ by Gianfranco Angelucci, and the special ‘Fellini: Casanova voleva una bambola’ by Lello Bersani and Vanni Ronsisvalle, which collects, among other things, the views and impressions of journalists and critics published after the first showing of the film.
To complete the exhibition there are the main publications dedicated to this film, and for the first time, through the courtesy of Antonello Geleng, also the studies and reproductions of costumes, faces and hairstyles made by the same Geleng on indication by Danilo Donati.
