Beethoven's only Opera is an edifying story of risk and triumph. The story is that of Leonore, wife of a political prisoner captured by the Jacobins, who, intending to save her husband, manages to win the trust of his torturers by pretending to be a man.
Tobias Kratzer's new staging links the dark reality of French revolutionary terror to our time, to illuminate Fidelio's inspired message about humanity.
