Luxmas: Rimini presents a month of lights, sounds, installations and words for a tribute to the city in the name of beauty

Luxmas

From 5 December Rimini will shine with Christmas lights and presents 'Luxmas': from the luminous flight of butterflies, to the Christmas decorations throughout the city, from the installation of light design in the square over the water at the bridge of Tiberius, to the music performances in streaming and as a background in the squares and streets of the city centre.

A month of lights in the squares and streets of Rimini, but also a month in the name of culture and music to support singers, writers, actresses and musicians from Rimini and the whole local entertainment industry, so severely affected by the pandemic. A month of light art installations in the main places of Rimini, to transform the monuments and the urban landscape into an unusual and welcoming luminous body.
Luxmas is not a calendar of shows, but a luminous atmosphere that wants to accompany the Christmas period in Rimini connecting cultural spaces, such as Galli Theatre, Part- Palazzi dell'Arte Rimini, City Museum and its Modern Wing, Surgeon's House, Gambalunga Library, Teatro degli Atti, Visitor center, to each other through streets and squares full of lights, sounds, words and butterflies - a theme dear to the poet Tonino Guerra - symbol of freedom and messenger of beauty and hope in a good future.

For Christmas time Rimini will be full of lights and atmosphere, from Torre Pedrera to Miramare, passing by the city center, from the Arch of Augustus to the bridge of Tiberius, from Cavour square to the City Museum. In particular, the urban lighting project continues with a site-specific video mapping on the facade of the surgeon's Domus, the famous archaeological site discovered in the hub of Rimini. The mapping "Vista mare" is the visual history of the Mediterranean sea where a great storm submerges the excavation and transforms it into an unlikely aquarium where all the beings, peoples, boats, monstrous and mythological creatures of its history meet again beyond time.

From 5 December, a real tribute to experimental contemporary design will be also on show in a special corner of the town, the square on the water at the Tiberius bridge, where the designer Gio Tirotto has realized the 208 project, a light installation on the water curated by Maria Cristina Didero.  208. is a public installation with a universal message, an imposing and evocative light sculpture that can be enjoyed by all. Absorbing the sunlight during the day, at dusk the buoys in the large basin near the Tiberius Bridge, which symbolize the 208 nations of the world, begin their smooth dance transforming the surrounding landscape into an unusual and reassuring signal body in continuous movement, a slight symphony of flashes where each float accumulates energy independently in different ways, depending on its own position.

Together with the light project, many are the online and offline appointments with music, creative workshop and theatre performances that put the talented artists of the city at the center of the attention during the Christmas time. Thanks to digital devices also the places of culture that the health emergency has closed, will virtually open their doors through 360-degree virtual visits of their greatest works of art both from the City Museum and the main exhibition centres.

And finally the nativity scenes could not be missing in Rimini. This year, in order to visit the cribs in total safety, people can walk around the city following the Itinerant Nativity Scenes from all over the World, the Multi-ethnic representations on show in the shops of the town centre.  Twenty nativity scenes spread in seventeen shops, at the Augustus Arch and in the Malatesta Temple will bring the hope and beauty of Christmas to the city.

Merry Christmas and a Happy new year!
