"Rabab" is a project to promote intercultural dialogue through the music. It aims to be an opportunity to understand each other through the sound. The initiative, under the artistic direction by Nicola Matteini, is divided into three appointments of different music: the traditional Afghan music, the medieval and the Sephardic music.
In the first appointment, Sunday 25th October, the rabab will be performed by Peppe Frana, accompanied by Ciro Montanari, percussion, in "Naghma, music from Afghanistan". Sunday 8th November is proposed medieval music with the sound of lute and small guitar by Peppe Frana - voice and percussion by Enea Sorini. In the last meeting, Sunday 22nd November, the ensemble "La rosa" presents music of the Sephardic tradition.

The common thread that binds the three events is a musical instrument which in the ninth century was brought to Spain by the Arabs. The name of the musical instrument hides its origins from the Middle East. The rabab it is an old Afghan variant, common in India in the Kashmir region. It is carved from a single block of wood, the soundboard is in parchment and the strings are made by gut and some are in metal: the gut strings are played with a plectrum, which makes also the metal strings to vibrate, and the neck has frets. The instrument is often mentioned in ancient texts. The name rabab, through the centuries, has been attributed to a wide range of instruments such as the sarod and the sarangi.
