A mythological and literary figure, to which many poetic, musical and iconographic readings have been linked since ancient times, Arianna represents in the Baroque vocal repertoire the symbol of the woman who lives an existential, emotional, extreme and excessive condition of life. The abandonment to which she is condemned becomes the cause of that inconsolable cry that turns necessarily to singing, conveying the whole range of affections so dear to Baroque aesthetics. As an authentic figure of the lament Arianna tells in the first person the depth of the female universe with all the strength and actuality of which perhaps only the myths are capable.
